July 4th meal / red lights

We went to an American restaurant today and on the way to it, walked through a red light district. It was my first experience of a red light district at night in a non-European country, and it was very similar to, say, Madrid.

The reason I mention it – other than to share what I’m up to – is because it was so incongruous. From a main road with nothing unusual about it, to a road with lots of ladies, to another main road with nothing unusual about it. I wonder how non-local customers found this sort of location before the internet.

Our July 4th meal was outstanding. We eat mostly Thai food for two reasons: 1, it’s just so much more affordable; and 2, we’re in Thailand – what else should we eat? Our trip home, and the meal tonight, were that much more enjoyable because we have heavy meals so rarely.
